FaceVeil Privacy Policy

1. Overview

FaceVeil ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that protects your personal data — including Aadhaar numbers, PAN cards, face photos, and voice — when using AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

FaceVeil never collects, stores, transmits, or processes:

• Your Aadhaar number, PAN card, or any credential you type
• Your face photos or any images you upload
• Your voice recordings or audio data
• Your chat prompts or messages to AI tools
• Your browsing history or visited URLs
• Your name, email address, or any personal information
• Your device information or IP address
• Any analytics, telemetry, or usage statistics

3. What FaceVeil Does on Your Device

FaceVeil performs the following actions entirely within your browser:

• Scans text you type in AI tool input fields using local regex patterns
• Generates fake replacement values locally when you click Auto-Replace
• Applies pixel perturbation to images using the HTML5 Canvas API locally
• Processes audio using the Web Audio API locally
• Stores only your on/off toggle preference using chrome.storage.sync
• Stores aggregate counts (credentials detected, replaced) locally

4. Local Storage

FaceVeil uses chrome.storage.sync to store:

• Whether protection is enabled (true/false)
• Total credentials detected (a number — not the actual credentials)
• Total credentials replaced (a number)

This data never leaves your browser's local storage. It is never transmitted to any server. It is used only to display stats in the extension popup.

5. Permissions Explained

FaceVeil requests the following Chrome permissions:

• storage — to save your on/off toggle preference locally
• activeTab — to inject the protection script into the current AI tool tab
• scripting — to run the credential detection and image protection on the page

FaceVeil does NOT request: browsing history, cookies, bookmarks, downloads, geolocation, camera, or any other sensitive permissions.

6. Third-Party Services

FaceVeil does not integrate with any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or tracking platforms. The extension makes zero outbound network requests.

7. AI Tool Interactions

FaceVeil runs as a content script on AI tool pages (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot). It intercepts input before it is sent to these services. FaceVeil does not have any relationship with OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, or Microsoft. FaceVeil is an independent privacy tool.

8. Children's Privacy

FaceVeil does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The extension contains no features directed at children.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of FaceVeil after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will never change our core zero-data-collection principle.

10. Open Source

FaceVeil's extension code is available for review. You can verify our privacy claims by reading the source code directly. We believe privacy should be verifiable, not just promised.

11. Compliance

FaceVeil is designed to help users comply with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act) 2023 by preventing accidental disclosure of personal data to AI services. FaceVeil itself is fully compliant with DPDP Act 2023, GDPR (EU), and CCPA (California) — because we collect no data.
